Belleville High School Swimming I & II
🏊♀️ Pool Safety Rules 🏊🏽♀️
1. Always Swim with Supervision:
- Never swim alone. Ensure a qualified instructor or lifeguard is present at all times during swim practices or lessons.
2. Know Your Limits:
- Don’t push yourself too hard. Swim at your level and gradually work your way up to more advanced techniques or longer distances.
3. Warm-Up and Stretch:
- Always warm up with light exercises and stretches before getting into the water to prevent muscle strains or cramps.
4. Follow Pool Rules:
- Pay attention to and follow all posted pool rules, such as no running on the deck, no diving in shallow water, and no rough play.
5. Enter the Water Safely:
- Always enter the water feet first unless the pool is deep enough and diving is allowed in specific areas. Use proper diving techniques to avoid injury.
6. Practice Good Hygiene:
- Shower before entering the pool to keep the water clean. Don’t swim if you’re feeling unwell, especially if you have a contagious illness.
7. Understand Emergency Procedures:
- Know where the lifeguards are stationed, the location of first aid kits, and how to signal for help in an emergency.
8. Wear Proper Swim Gear:
- Wear appropriate swimwear that won’t restrict movement. Use swim caps and goggles to protect your eyes and hair.
9. Be Aware of Others:
- Be mindful of other swimmers. Avoid splashing, grabbing, or blocking someone’s path in the pool.
10. Stay Hydrated:
- Drink water before and after swimming. Even though you’re in the water, you can still get dehydrated.
11. Learn Basic Water Safety Skills:
- Know how to float, tread water, and perform basic rescue techniques like reaching or throwing a flotation device to someone in trouble.
12. No Horseplay:
- Avoid roughhousing, dunking, or other dangerous play that could lead to accidents or injuries.
13. Exit the Pool Safely:
- Use the ladder or pool steps to exit. Be cautious of wet surfaces to prevent slipping and falling.
14. Respect the Instructor:
- Listen carefully to the instructor’s directions and feedback. They’re there to keep you safe and help you improve.
15. Understand the Buddy System:
- Pair up with a classmate as a “swim buddy” to keep an eye on each other, especially during drills or open swim time.
Following these safety rules ensures a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for everyone involved.
