Class Expectations
- Respect: Always be respectful to the teachers and classmates.
- Responsibility: Follow teacher instructions quickly and with minimal disruption.
- Sportsmanship: Exhibit good sportsmanship by supporting classmates and playing fairly.
- Effort: Do your best and encourage others to do the same.

Locker Room Expectations
- Timeliness: Be inside the locker room when the tardy bell rings.
- Lockers: You must supply your own combination lock. Use the lock to secure your belongings. Never leave your belongings unattended.
- Preparation Time: You have 5 minutes after the bell to change, lock up your items, and be seated by your locker ready for dismissal to the gym.
- Food and Drink: No food or drinks allowed in the locker room.
- Cell Phones: No cell phone use (including cameras, videos, FaceTime,TikTok) in the locker room. This is prohibited by law.
- Doors: Do not answer the locker room door unless directed by a teacher.
- Tardy Policy: If you fail to enter the gym when instructed, you will be marked tardy.
- Exit Protocol:
- Girls: Exit and enter through the door across from the girls' locker room.
- Boys: Exit and enter through the door across from the boys' locker room.
- End of Class: You will have 7-8 minutes to change back into school clothes. Exit promptly when the bell rings.
Attendance Policy
- Tardies: Be in the locker room by the time the tardy bell rings. If the locker room is locked, take your belongings into the gym and sit in your squad line for attendance. You will be marked tardy and you cannot change for class.
- If you arrive to the locker room on time but are not out of the locker room when the teacher tells everyone to head to the gym and the teacher has to wait on you, you will be marked tardy-we can’t hold up the entire class for a student who is late changing.
- Absences (Excused or Unexcused):r
- If you miss class (for any reason), you will receive a zero in the gradebook until you make up the assignment.
- To make up missed points, refer to the makeup policy.
- Squad Line Protocol: Upon entering the gym, go directly to your squad line for attendance. You must be seated in your assigned spot or risk being marked absent.
Gym Expectations
- Squad Line: Upon entering the gym, immediately sit in your assigned squad line.
- Food and Drink: No food or drinks are allowed in the gym for safety reasons.
- Respect for Equipment: Treat all gym equipment and school property with care.
- Whistle Protocol: When the whistle blows, stop and listen for instructions.
- Safety Rules:
- Do not kick volleyballs or basketballs.
- Do not throw balls across the gym.
- Do not touch rim, net or backboard and no dunking, snapping and hanging on rim or pulling of the net.
- Do not climb the bleachers.
- Do not slam balls against the walls.
- Do not open any gym doors unless directed to do so by a teacher.
- Do not stand near gym doors during class.

- Digital Pass: With teacher approval, you must complete a digital pass on Minga to leave the classroom to use the bathroom, use a different water fountain, go see a teacher, etc.
- Cell Phones/Headphones: Headphones/Airpods need to be left inside your gym locker. Cell phones need to be put away in your pocket or somewhere safe during class
- Language: Inappropriate language will not be tolerated
Injuries/Doctor's Notes
- If you are injured (inside or outside of school), you must provide a doctor’s note that specifies when you can return to class and what activities you are cleared for.
- If you are unable to participate in activities due to an injury, alternate assignments may be provided at the teacher's discretion.
- If your injury is long-term, you may need to meet with your counselor to switch to a different class for the semester.
Grading Rationale
- Required Supplies:
- Gym clothes
- Proper gym shoes (NO jeans, cargo pants, sandals, flip-flops, boots, crocs, etc.)
- Combination lock for your locker
- Daily Participation (4 Points Total):
- 4 points: Full participation (dressed, engaged and actively participating in all required class activities and following class expectations).
- Point Deductions:
- Absence (Excused or Unexcused): -4 points
- Out of School Suspension (OSS): -4 points
- In School Suspension (ISS) or SRC: -4 points
- Non-Participation (NP): -4 points for sitting out or not participating effectively in all required class assignments including but not limited to all components of the required warm up, the required class activity, the required class cool down etc. Sitting and standing around is never an option in PE.
- Non-Dress (ND): -4 points for improper attire or failing to dress for class.
Make-Up Policy
- Students with a grade less than a B- are required to make-up on Fridays to earn back missed points.
- Makeup Days: During class on Fridays
- Make-Up Activity:
- 20 minutes of walking laps around the gym = 1 make-up
- 40 minutes of walking laps around the gym = 2 make-ups
- Sets of 10 repetitions of: Push-ups- Squats - Crunches - Lunges - Burpees
- Non-Participation on Makeup Days: If you refuse to do your make-up assignment when assigned by your teacher, you will receive a 0 for the day and may be sent to SRC for disciplinary action.
- Points not eligible for make ups: Not participating in all required components of class assignments and class activities. Ex: one or more required warm ups- 2 jogging laps, push ups or crunches, not participating in all required components of the class assignments -standing around, sitting, on cell phone, tiktoks etc.
Behavior Policy
BHS School wide behavior policy- minor infractions
- Teacher establishes class norms
- Teacher speaks with the student in the classroom
- Teacher speaks to the student privately
- Call home to parents
- Office Referral to your principal
Important Notes
- Always bring the correct attire for gym class (gym clothes and shoes).
- Be prepared for class every day, and respect the space, rules, and equipment.
- Make sure to communicate any injuries (with Dr. note) or absences to the teacher.
